Perinatal (Maternal) Mental Health

1787156570What is Perinatal Mental Health?

Perinatal mental health (Maternal Mental Health) describes the psychological well-being while trying to conceive, during pregnancy, and after giving birth. Our goal is to support YOU, your partner, or other support systems on the path to parenting and/or healing. This process involves change by working through stress, worry, guilt, fear, anxiousness, and more. The uncertainty makes the process complex for many who are dealing with infertility, pregnancy problems, perinatal loss, or hospitalization due to psychosis or risk.

You don’t have to handle it on your own…

The most joyful and challenging times in your life may come when having a child or trying to conceive. Due to this, mental health problems appear out of nowhere during pregnancy and have a serious impact on parents and their partners. As You Are Therapy provides emotional support to those having a difficult time adjusting, experiencing perinatal mood disorders (anxiety, depression, bipolar, or psychosis) or those dealing with infertility, loss, or any PTSD symptoms.

Regardless of age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, or income, people can experience perinatal mental health issues. Current research shows it affects 1 in 5-7 women and 1 in 10 men. So, whether it is needing assistance in raising your child, dealing with financial anxiety, marital tension, job loss, loss of a child, or infertility treatment history, YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

You’re exhausted…

Maybe you just gave birth and feel like it’s tough to bond with your child. Maybe you are angry with your partner because they don’t act like a true “partner” once the child has arrived. Maybe people question when you’re due because you still show, but you’ve lost your child. Maybe you adopted or foster children and feel like you cannot control your mood or feel anxious/paranoid. Maybe you are single, pregnant, and feeling isolated, anxious, and not knowing where to turn for support.

We can go on and on. Whatever it is that brought you here, we see you. We validate you. And know we will walk through this with you.

Treatment with people who’ve been there…

Regardless of what you are struggling with, it is hard to reach out and get help. It is even harder when people don’t understand and give you the traditional “sympathy”.

Try therapy with people who have gone through similar struggles. Dr. Bryant personally lost her second child and it impacted her life in ways she could never have imagined. It brought bitterness, jealousy, and so many more emotions to the plate.

Healing is possible.

It’s time for you to find peace.

During a time that is all about giving, please let us teach you to be selfish. We will teach you how to find time for you and fill your cup. You are not alone. We will embrace you (and your partner) with open arms during this season. If you are ready to move through the pain, anxiety, or depression, we are here to journey with you.
