Do you take insurance?
We do not. We are out-of-network providers. Stevie does take Aetna and Cigna.
You may be thinking, “What?! Why not?!” I can’t get down with it because insurance companies take control of the therapeutic process. They limit the number and frequency of sessions, and they might randomly decide you’re “better” even if we’ve only met for three sessions. I prefer that we make those kinds of decisions and that you retain autonomy over your mental health care.
I can, however, give you a monthly “Superbill” to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement for out-of-network services. To do this, I must issue you a mental health diagnosis, which will become part of your permanent medical record. I will not be communicating with your insurance provider for confidentiality purposes.
How do I set up an initial appointment?
Yasss… now you’re asking the right questions!
Let’s start with a free 15-minute consultation so that we can hear more about you and make sure we’re a good fit. Like dating, compatibility in therapy matters!
What is your cancellation policy?
With therapy, commitment is important. Our cancellation policy requires that you provide 24 hours’ notice to cancel. You will be charged for your session if you do not inform your therapist within that window.
We are not mean though, so we will be flexible if emergencies happen. If you need to reschedule, we will make every effort to find the time for you to reschedule and meet in person or online.
What is a telehealth option?
Telehealth (aka “tele-visits,” “tele-sessions,” “telemedicine,” “telepsychology,” “virtual therapy,” “virtual sessions,” “video therapy,” or “online therapy”) delivers therapy using information and communication technologies to provide diagnosis, consultation, treatment, and care management while the patient and provider are at two different sites.
In other words, it’s a way to meet with a therapist when we are in two different locations. You can call or video chat from the comfort of your home, office, hotel room, etc.
Our therapists are licensed in California and Tennessee, so if you’re in one of those states, we can work together remotely!
With whom do you work?
I work with individuals of all genders, ages 6 and up.
I also work with couples (“situationships,” dating, married, engaged, etc.).
What do you do in sessions with clients?
In our first few sessions, we will discuss your past, present, and future: experiences you have had; how they are impacting you now; and what you want to do, be, and have by the end of our time together.
Once we have that established, our sessions will involve lots of unpacking: opening up your baggage, airing it out, and deciding what you want to keep with you as you continue your life journey.
In each session, we’ll address what may have ruffled your feathers the week before and continue building our relationship.
Through our work, you will confront what has been holding you back, keeping you small, and making you play it safe. Together, we’ll make changes that create a “ripple effect” that will cascade throughout all aspects of your life.
Do you assign “homework” between sessions?
It depends on the patient. we generally give “emotional homework” to build momentum and create change. We are not boring, so you won’t have worksheets or weird things like that.
Instead, we might give you a podcast or TED talk to listen to. We may have you watch something on Netflix or challenge you to put something we discuss into practice.
We love books, so we may even recommend a book or other content that complements our work.
What else do I need to know to make the most of working with you?
It will be SO much cooler than what you’re probably expecting! It will be raw, authentic, genuine, and fun.
You’re reading this for a reason. You are ready, and we’re here to meet you.
We will get you where you want to be.
Why do you say you’re a company with “cool” therapists?
Many people probably think therapists are going to sit in front of you, like a mirror, only saying, “Um-hum…” or “Ah, I see.”
That just ain’t us! We are cool therapist because we’re relatable, understanding, and focused on rapport. Our whole team fits that vibe as well!
Are you unfiltered? Maybe even cuss a little? Don’t be shy! You won’t need a filter.
We get the raw things: the one-night stands, cheating on tests, dirty thoughts, etc. No judgment here!
Some of us may be parents, but we’re not the kind of therapist who reminds you of YOUR parent!
Will you be writing on a notepad or typing in sessions?
Most us are note-takers! It helps us process what you share. We write down experiences or specific words you say, especially when precision matters. We will reflect back to you to check in with your emotions or ask you to expound further.
We also consult those notes for our follow-up sessions – for reflection and tracking progress.
But if this makes you uncomfortable or you do not like it, please let us know. We don’t mind going without.
What brand of tissues do you offer?
We offer Kleenex Ultra Soft. It’s legit three… that’s right… THREE layers of comfort for your nose, eyes, or your cheeks, whatever gets wet first.
Cats or Dogs?
Dogs ALL day. Specifically, hypoallergenic dogs. Dr. Bryant is a fur mom to two mini schnauzers. Stevie has a mini Australian shepherd!
Do you ever get tired of listening to people’s problems?
We don’t see our job as “listening to people’s problems.” We see it as finding solutions, looking at trends, and getting to the heart of people’s needs. We find joy in it, which is just part of our personality.
We are the type that goes to the grocery store and leaves with the cashier’s life story – always have been.
