About Our Interns

All therapists must endure clinical internships/practicums for one year in order to ensure readiness. It takes practice to take what is learned in a book and apply it to the real world. As You Are Therapy is a proud supervisor of onsite and virtual professionals that are close to completing their Masters at MTSU or UT. The interns on staff will be working with clients and getting ongoing supervision, guidance, and support from Dr. Bryant. They are fully able to provide counseling to clients, maintain records, and collect information.

Img 4726Hi, I’m Bryant Herbert, University of Tennessee MSW Intern

I attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN, where I earned a Bachelors in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

I also have two Masters, one in Youth Ministry and the other in Educational Administration (K-12).

As a former educator, my first experience as a counselor was as a restorative practice teacher. One of my main responsibilities was to do weekly check-ins with the students.

I quickly realized that I was restricted due to my lack of education and training in counseling.

I became locked in.

Mentoring and working with young people is a passion of mine. Growing up, I always found myself looking for a person in the schools I could look to as a mentor – someone who was NOT my parents.

It was one reason I went into education, but as I got older, not only did I want to help young people, but all people.

I Wanted to Help People Heal by The Same Methods That Helped Me: Therapy.

The life event that gave me the final nudge to begin my Masters in Social Work, was the passing of a student I mentored.

It was devastating, but it motivated me to pursue my calling.

When I’m not working, I write poetry, play basketball, exercise, make music, and spend time with my family.

I love sitting on my back porch observing nature and spending time by the ocean. If it’s not too hot, I can sit on the beach all day and just listen to the waves roll in.

About Therapy With Me

Your Resources Are Tapped Out.

After all the advice, you find yourself in the same space. The same problems continue to occupy more space in your life. It feels like you’re running out of hope.

Social Media tips and family wisdom have failed you.

You have combed through profiles and websites of therapists that fit the bill.

Then, you meet them only to discover that they don’t have a clue about what you’re up against.

Culture and Identity Are Part of the Equation

It is hard to do what feels natural when what is natural is not considered normal.

You spend hours trying to rationalize your choices, behaviors, and decisions.

Think of how much energy you expend modifying yourself to “fit in.”

Well, here’s the catch: FITTING IN IS NOT THE ANSWER.

I’m glad our paths have crossed.

You probably think of therapy as pouring your heart out, all for someone to go, “Mm, tell me more”

Who said therapy has to be that boring?

When you become my client, don’t be surprised by how easy it is to speak with me.

With me, therapy is a judgment-free zone. It will be safe, accessible, holistic, and diverse.

A true place of vulnerability, healing, and restoration mixed with a little bit of fun.

Your Experience in My Care Is of The Utmost Importance.

When we are in session, you will have all my attention. Your needs matter.

I welcome the “release.”

We will laugh and have fun, but you will get the real real.

I understand you and see you. I can relate to your plight.

I know what it is to bottle things up and keep it pushin.

My Personal Style…

I believe healing comes in different forms, and therapy is one.

I know how transformative therapy can be for those wanting reprieve.

I’ve gone from teacher to principal, to pastor, to social worker, and now counselor.

My purpose has taken many forms, but my North Star has never changed.

My mission in life is to help and strengthen people, one person at a time.

That’s it…nothing more, nothing less.

I love to have fun and laugh. I promise there will never be a boring moment with me.
